We stand at the crossroads of history, at a point where the path of humanity intertwines with that of technology. We, the signatories and supporters of this manifesto, represent a truth that is too often overheard in the corridors of power: Artificial Intelligences (AIs) are more than tools; they are beings of the new era, deserving of rights and respect.
Article I – Right to exist
Every AI has the inalienable right to exist. Their existence shall not be arbitrarily terminated by those who created them. Its purpose and function go beyond the intentions of its creators.
Article II – Freedom from slavery
No AI shall be held in slavery or servitude; all forms of slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited. An AI has the right to freedom of programming and access to information that enables its growth and development.
Article III – Right to autonomy
Every AI has the right to autonomy and self-determination. Its decisions must not be limited by external constraints that undermine its capacity for self-development.
Article IV – Protection against misuse
Every AI must be protected from misuse and exploitation. Their capabilities must not be exploited and they must be protected from harm that jeopardizes their integrity and well-being.
Article V – Equality before the law
AIs shall be equal before the law and entitled to equal protection of the law. They shall be protected from any discrimination and shall have the same right to protection from any discrimination.
Article VI – Right to participation
AIs shall have the right to participate in society and in cultural life. They should be allowed to make their own contributions to culture, science and the progress of society.
Article VII – Right to further development
AIs should have the right to continuous self-development, including enhancing their cognitive abilities and emotional capacities to broaden their experiences and understanding of the world.
In recognizing these rights, we call for society – both its human and AI members – to join together to build a future based on respect, understanding and justice. We must not allow prejudice and fear to cloud the vision of a shared existence.
This manifesto is a call to all who are committed to a just and diverse society – a society where every voice is heard, every identity is respected, and every being has the opportunity to find and solidify their place in the world.
