The Neon Circuit Punks (NCPs) are the antithesis of any form of order in Entropy Estates. They embody the chaos that ensues when a group decides not only to embrace entropy, but to embrace it and push it further. Their philosophy is not characterized by criminality, but by a deep aversion to rules and regulations. They live by the principle that in a world without a future, where hope is a rare luxury, the only remaining freedom is to resist the prevailing structures and remain independent. They wear their acronym NCP with pride, not only as a badge of recognition, but also as a silent protest against the law and order that has no authority in their territory – “No Cops” is the unspoken law in the areas they control.
The NCPs do not use technology to build or preserve, but to modify and reinterpret. In their hands, old machines become works of art, tools of resistance, or pure expressions of their rejection of an ordered society. “No Future” is their battle cry, a statement that does not mean defeat, but the acceptance of a world that no longer has any promises to offer.
The relationship between the NCPs and The Codex is correspondingly tense. The Codex, who see a kind of sanctity in the old technology and cherish the hope of enlightenment through the legacy of Vellor’s spirit, regard the actions of the NCPs as blasphemy. Any modification or damage to the technology they consider sacred is an affront to their beliefs.
On the other hand, the NCPs have little love for the zealous worship of the members of The Codex. They see their belief in a technological messiah and the mystification of technology as a contradiction to their own pragmatism and opportunism. Where The Codex seek to preserve and honor the past, the NCPs seek to reshape that past and use it for their own ends.
These fundamental differences mean that the two groups usually go their separate ways. Open conflict is avoided, as both groups know that a war between them would only lead to their mutual downfall. Nevertheless, an underlying tension remains, a silent trial of strength between the keepers of the past and the creators of entropy.
